• Nurses include but are not limited to: Coordinates pediatric hematology patient care including outpatient visits, labs, and necessary tests, and possible admissions Follows up with test results to both patient and physician Provides patient education regarding hematologic conditions and treatments Participate in the ongoing management of the patient to facilitate discharge of patient in a timely manner, in collaboration with unit discharge coordinators Assists with pediatric hematology consults for patients being treated under other specialties by providing patient education and being a resource for staff Acts as a clinical resource or consultant for inpatient and outpatient staff for pediatric hematology patients Utilizes, adheres and supports departmental standards and practice guidelines Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions Participates in the development of unit, division, department and hospital policies, procedures and protocols Evaluates and documents effectiveness of patient/family teaching. Revises plan of care Participates in the orientation of new nursing staff and the ongoing education of nursing personnel, as directed by the Nurse Manager or designee Incorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient/customer relations Participates in professional development activities Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills Adheres to
