The Mammography Technologist performs screening and diagnostic breast imaging while maintaining quality control standards and equipment. They are also responsible for mentoring students and coordinating patient care across departments.
Candidates must hold ARRT Mammography certification, a CRT Radiology license, and a CRT Mammography license. Applicants must also provide proof of specific mammography training, including 3D Tomosynthesis and digital imaging certifications.
The licensed Mammography Technologist is responsible for conducting both screening and diagnostic breast imaging procedures, ensuring the production of images that meet ACR quality standards.
Proficiency in interacting with clinicians and coordinating patient care across departments is essential.
This technologist must adapt to evolving radiology information systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
Active participation in departmental performance improvement initiatives is required, along with the maintenance of quality control records and engagement in routine equipment testing and maintenance.
Additionally, this role includes the responsibility to mentor and train students and new employees as needed.
include graduation from a formal radiology technology training program accredited by the AMA. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, including the ability to rotate shifts and cover multiple locations.
For a Senior level position, a minimum of three years of mammography experience is required, while a Principal level position necessitates over five years of experience.
Furthermore, candidates who obtained certification after April 27, 1999, must provide proof of at least 40 hours of mammography-specific training.
They are also required to demonstrate that they have performed at least 200 mammography exams within the past 24 months (rolling 24-month calendar) and possess certificates for a minimum of 15 CEUs in Mammography over the last 36-month period (rolling 36-month calendar).
Additionally, proof of completion of MQSA-approved training of 8 hours each in Digital and 3D Tomosynthesis is mandatory.
