The patient safety companion provides direct supervision and surveillance for assigned patients to ensure their safety through simple interventions. They also assist with basic patient care activities such as hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation under the direction of a registered nurse.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to commit to at least one shift per week year-round. Nursing students are preferred, and the role requires effective communication skills and the ability to remain alert for prolonged periods.
- High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required or relevant
- less than 1 year previous healthcare experience or a nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program. required
Effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team. - Basic assessment and analytical skills in order to perform simple patient observations. - Functional sight, hearing and speech. Ability to sit and stay alert for prolonged periods of time. Ability to stand &/or walk up to 50% of time. - Knowledge of computer and keyboard.
