The Dental Hygienist provides professional clinical dental care, including oral prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and periodontal surgical support. They are also responsible for patient education regarding oral hygiene and maintaining dental prevention programs.
Candidates must have graduated from an approved school for dental hygiene and possess strong knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and sterilization techniques. Licensure in North Dakota and Minnesota is preferred, along with current CPR certification.
Family HealthCare (FHC) is seeking a full-time Dental Hygienist. This position will work with the dental team to provide high quality care and positive patent experience to a diverse population. The Dental Hygienist performs professional dental care in the field of dental hygiene including all related clinical procedures. Has broad responsibilities for clinical and community dental health education activities.
Provides oral prophylaxis including instruction for proper home care techniques for oral hygiene including proper toothbrushing, flossing, nutrition, and need for professional care. Provides oral topical fluorides including screening and evaluating patients regarding caries detection, periodontal pathology, medical history, exposing, processing, and mounting of radiographs. Provides supra and subgingival scaling and curettage, root planing, and procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques. Performs duties where qualified, as delegated by dentist and governed by state law. Performs gross debridement in treatment of acute and chronic periodontal conditions. Primarily responsible for the initiation and maintenance of the dental prevention and dental education program. Support the organization as needed. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic dental terminology and recordkeeping procedures to enter information on patient records, and keep records of supplies and recurring dental activities. Knowledge of the instruments, materials and standardized dental procedures used for oral examinations and general dental care and provide chairside assistance. Knowledge of the use, care and storage of dental equipment, materials and instruments. Knowledge of latest and most recent sterilization and infection control techniques. Knowledge of procedures for treating, scheduling, and dismissing patients. Knowledge of managing inventory supplies and receiving and routing laboratory appliances. Knowledge of procedures for obtaining digital dental related radiographs. Dexterity in passing dental instruments and materials and in manipulating suctioning and retraction apparatus in patient's mouth when at chairside. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Effective professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. Ability to self-start, work independently, and work as part of a team Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations. High adaptability and flexibility. Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect and dignity of patients. Demonstrate passion for and commitment to FHC's mission and its importance to the community. Culturally competent and exhibit cultural sensitivity. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an approved school for dental hygiene. LICENSE, REGISTRATION AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Licensure in both the states of North Dakota and Minnesota preferred. Current CPR Certification or ability to become certified within 30 days of hire.
