Summary: The Histotechnician will perform various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The Histology Technician needs to ensure tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the required standards. Responsibilities include, providing the highest quality medical laboratory services, working independently, and troubleshooting any problems, under the general supervision of a manager or lead technologist.

Functions: Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining Assists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when needed Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in the proper state of readiness, cleanliness, and sharpens and hone microtome knives Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
