Hospital Specimen experience preferred.

EMR system - Power Path
Typical Volume is 18 cases per day
Schedule 9
- 00 am- 5:00 pm and
- Evenings as needed 5:30 pm- 9:30 pm
Pathologist Assistant Master Degree Preferred: 4+ years experience preferred
About the Role
- The Pathologist Assistant plays a critical role in supporting pathologists by performing advanced specimen dissection, preparation, and documentation to facilitate accurate diagnosis and patient care.
- This position involves working closely with pathology teams to ensure that tissue samples are processed efficiently and meet quality standards for microscopic examination.
- The assistant is responsible for gross examination and description of surgical specimens, autopsy assistance, and maintaining detailed records to support clinical and research activities.
- By managing specimen workflow and collaborating with laboratory personnel, the Pathologist Assistant helps optimize laboratory operations and turnaround times.
- Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the diagnostic process, impacting treatment decisions and patient outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant biological science or health-related field.
- Completion of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant training program.
- Certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, pathology, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Ability to comply with HIPAA and other patient confidentiality regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a hospital or clinical pathology laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Additional certifications or training in histotechnology or cytotechnology.
- Strong background in quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills demonstrated in a multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens according to established protocols.
- Assist pathologists during autopsies, including preparation and documentation of findings.
- Prepare and process tissue samples for microscopic evaluation, ensuring proper labeling and preservation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of specimens, procedures, and findings in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to manage specimen workflow and ensure timely processing and reporting.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to uphold laboratory standards.
- Communicate effectively with pathologists, clinicians, and laboratory personnel to support diagnostic processes.
