The surgical dental assistant supports the oral surgeon by preparing exam rooms, assisting during procedures, and maintaining sterile instruments. They also handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and processing insurance forms.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and obtain dental radiography certification within 12 months. A BLS certification is required, and while previous experience is preferred, it is not mandatory.
Under general directions of the Oral Surgeon, works with the clinical team to provide the highest quality care of all of our patients in the office, procedure rooms and OR as may be required.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Dental Radiography certification required within 12 months of employment. BLS certification required.
Preferred, but not required.
1. Obtains dental and medical history and personal information and records this and treatment rendered on chart to support appointment including exposing, developing and mounting radiographs.
2. Prepares weekly and daily schedules.
3. Performs duties based on analysis of treatment plan.
4. Keeps exam rooms clean and stocked including supply ordering.
5. Keeps oral area clean by use of suction devices, water sprays, cotton rolls and holders and by retraction of cheek and tongue.
6. Performs certain impressions, pours and trims models then prepares them for treatment.
7. Arranges instruments, materials, medications and hands to oral surgeon as needed.
8. Sterilizes instruments and stores same. Prevents cross‐contamination during use by practice of barrier techniques.
9. Supports clerical duties including, but not limited to scheduling appointments, point of collections, answering telephones, complete insurance forms for coverage and pre‐determinations, etc.
10. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and keeps equipment and working area clean at all times.
1. Arranges instruments, materials, medications and hands to dentist as needed.
2. Takes care of lab cases, send out and receive.
3. Completes insurance forms for coverage and any other administrative duties.
