About the Role

• The Registered Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective recovery of patients following surgical procedures.
• This position requires vigilant monitoring of patients' vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition as they emerge from anesthesia, facilitating a smooth transition to the next phase of care.
• The nurse collaborates closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to promptly identify and address any complications or adverse reactions.
• Providing compassionate patient education and emotional support to patients and their families is also a key component of this role.
• Ultimately, the Registered Nurse in the PACU contributes significantly to patient safety, comfort, and positive surgical outcomes within a fast-paced clinical environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program
• BLS and ACLS certification.
• Prior experience or clinical exposure in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit or critical care setting.
• Strong knowledge of postoperative care principles and patient monitoring techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Post Anesthesia Nursing (CPAN) or equivalent specialty certification.
• Experience working in a high-volume surgical center or hospital PACU.
• Demonstrated skills in patient education and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients’ vital signs and level of consciousness continuously during the immediate postoperative period.
• Assess and manage pain, nausea, and other postoperative symptoms using appropriate interventions and medications.
• Collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to communicate patient status and any concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, observations, and interventions in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
