The IV Technician is responsible for preparing sterile IV products and managing the IV compounding area inventory. They also ensure the accurate distribution of medications to nursing units and assist the IV Pharmacist with dosage calculations.
Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and prior Pharmacy Technician experience. Registration with the State of Tennessee is required within 90 days of employment.
Summary: This position is a 7 on / 7 off 10 hour night shift. Must train on 1st shift before moving to nights. Responsible for assisting the IV Pharmacist by preparation of sterile IV products in the IV area, stocking and preparing for delivery medications stored and prepared in the area. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reviews IV Compounding Area Inventory, Compiles and Processes replacement items from the appropriate departments. Determines priority of all IV and Piggy Back medications presented form print list and compounds necessary items using sterile technique. Determines which items are needed daily as replenishment from the Add-Vantage Piggy-Back usage. Produces auxiliary labels used in IV preparation. Reviews and Separates for preparation all IV’s according to type.ie Frozen, Add-Vantage or Admix. Determines and makes the preparation of necessary paperwork for Sign Out IV Medication. Determines IV Preparation with Single Additives, Calculates Medication dosage and prepares final product using sterile technique. Prepares final product of IV Piggy backs in the Add-Vantage system using sterile Procures large volume IV and Additives, involving multi-additive solutions, then aligns with label for Pharmacist to check. Monitors daily floor-stock of sterile skin tests and replenishes as necessary. Using computer, sorts and checks all piggy backs to the appropriate nursing unit based on patient location. Prepares all IV and Piggyback carts for delivery and distribution to the proper nursing station at the appropriate time. Makes recommendations to pharmacists concerning standardized base solutions of sterile products to be prepared. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Technician Certification is preferred. MUST be registered with the State of Tennessee within 90 days of employment. EXPERIENCE: Must have Pharmacy Technician experience.
