The Patient Safety Observer is responsible for providing continuous observation and basic care for patients to ensure a safe environment. They must document patient behavior and interact regularly with patients, families, and clinical staff.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and maintain a BLS certification. Previous experience in patient care or sitting is preferred, along with strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
A Patient Safety Observer (Sitter) at Erlanger Health System is responsible for sitting with patients to provide basic care, continuous observation of patients, and documentation of behavior. The sitter works with clinical staff to provide a safe environment for the patient.
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Required:
Patient care or other healthcare experience, Caretaker or prior Sitting experience. Good reading, writing and communication skills.
The Patient Safety Observer (sitter) is responsible for sitting with patients to observe and document behavior. Continuous interaction with patient, visitors/family and hospital staff is a primary function. The Patient Safety Observer (sitter) must remain with the patient until relieved by another Patient Safety Observer or a hospital staff member. All patient safety observers (sitters) are responsible for basic patient care that include but not limited to ambulating, assisting with basic hygiene needs, and feeding. The patient safety observer must be willing to travel to all Erlanger campuses as assigned.
The Patient Safety Observer (sitter) must demonstrate exceptional people skills, the ability to handle complaints and resolve conflict when necessary.
