The medical technologist performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods to obtain diagnostic data. They work closely with team leaders to ensure continuous improvement and provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related biological science and have completed 12 months of approved clinical training. MT/CLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent is required for this position.
A licensed medical technologist performs and develops a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment and using both manual and automated methods. The employee performs chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological testing of body fluids to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease under the direction of a team leader. He/she works closely with the team leader and team members in an atmosphere of continuous improvement. He/she performs other duties as assigned by a team leader and/or operations manager.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related biological science and 12-months approved clinical training in a NACCLS approved program or equivalent. De-escalation training, if applicable
Required: Clinical laboratory experience .
Preferred: State of Tennessee licensure Medical Laboratory Technologist
Core competencies required of an MT include the performance of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological testing of body fluids dependent upon the specific area of the laboratory. Other core competencies include the possession of an independent judgment, and the development of laboratory procedures. An MT must be knowledgeable of the paperwork necessary to their job function. He/she must be able to interact with the employees and customers. Other core competencies are specific to each section of the laboratory.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her section. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
