The clinical dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy and nutrition services as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. They are responsible for conducting nutrition assessments, developing care plans, and educating patients and staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in dietetics (or a Bachelor's if credentialed prior to 2024) and have completed an accredited internship. A current state license and registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration are required.
Provides nutrition education to patients, patient’s family and friends, employees, physicians, health care staff, and the community. Provides written educational materials and other teaching aids that are tailored to the specific needs to the patient. Considers the patient's level of comprehension, cultural background, communication abilities, and socioeconomic needs. Develops, revises, and/or reviews educational materials. Attends collaborative care meetings, team rounds, patient care conferences, unit council meetings, and advisory groups as required and requested. Contacts the prescriber/provider/physician as necessary for clarification of orders, and/or to recommend appropriate therapy and monitoring to ensure patient safety, best outcome, and cost effective therapy.
Education: After January 1, 2024 - Master’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Individuals credentialed as Registered Dietitians prior to January 1, 2024 are eligible with a Bachelor’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
