Assists surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the operating room by preparing a safe, sanitary environment and maintaining sterile fields. Responsibilities include instrument sterilization, stocking anesthesia carts, and coordinating activities within Central Service.
Requires completion of a surgical technology program and current CPR, LCC-ST, or TS-C certification. Candidates must have previous surgical technology experience and the physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 pounds.

Assist in the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of each individual patient or procedure. Assist in identifying and finding a solution for problems 2. Develops a surgical conscience and participates as a member of a team and assume partial responsibility for the preparation of a safe, sanitary environment for each patient by following the proper clean-up techniques (beginning of day, interim and end of day) using aseptic technique, following procedure for correct counts, electrosurgery, proper labeling and care of specimens, assuring availability of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. 3. Assume Operating Room's prepared and in order for successive cases or emergencies. Prepare for continuity by assisting with cleaning and preparation of rooms assisting with opening of sterile packs and other necessary tasks. 4. Assist the circulating registered nurse, when assigned. Assume partial responsibility for circulating on plaster cast application and simple procedures while the physician or registered nurse is in the department. 6. Wash and sterilize instruments as necessary following the case. Disinfection of all scopes and non-autoclavable instruments as needed. 7. Must be able to stock carts for anesthesia (pre-op, main cart and individual carts). 8. Enter charges – review supplies used for each case, enter anesthesia charges and review charts for documentation 9. Assist in the department of Central Service and coordinate activities. Assist in the transportation of patients and/or other technical duties in the P.A.R. when requested. Perform all tasks related to direct or indirect patient care when requested, if necessary under the supervision of the registered nurse. 10. Provide for continuing education by attending staff development programs, reading current literature, belonging to and attending professional organization meetings.
