Provide direct assistance and supervision to residents with developmental disabilities in activities of daily living and implement behavior and health care plans. Document resident progress and support their integration into occupational, recreational, and vocational programs.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license with at least two years of US driving experience. Preferred candidates have one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
Direct Support Professional staff provides assistance and supervises residents in activities of daily living and implements Behavior Support and Health Care Plans. They are responsible for adhering to and documenting a resident’s program as directed by the Program Administrator and shift lead. They are responsible for providing active programming at all times.
Assists and teaches residents self-care, self-administration of medications, and independent living skills, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, feeding, and nail care. Assists and trains residents in activities of daily living, personal hygiene, and household activities, including but not limited to grocery shopping, food preparation, serving and clean-up. Maintains safety and supervision of the residents at all times. Implements Behavior Plans and Health Care Plans. Member of the Interdisciplinary Team in designated aspects of the development and implementation of the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and IPP outcomes, and overall programming for residents. Assists residents in occupational, recreational, vocational, and therapeutic programs. Maintains a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment which promotes respect and dignity for residents and protects the privacy, rights, confidentiality, and physical/emotional well-being of residents. Engages residents in activities that provide opportunities for learning and practice of skills tailored to the specific needs of the resident. Assists and teaches residents in the constructive use of leisure time. Encourages residents to participate in planned recreational activities. Actively supervises during dining, recreational activities, medical and other appointments. Knows and reports the whereabouts of the assigned residents at all times. Transports residents in the company vehicle to medical, recreational and/or other appointments. Attends staff meetings; including but not limited to in-services and training sessions. Maintains all required trainings and certifications as required by regulations and Elwyn California. Reports and documents behavior/medical concerns and other special incidents to proper supervisory personnel. Remains on duty until relieved by incoming staff. Consistently demonstrates the ability to maintain quality assurance standards and promote Elwyn California goals and objectives in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures. Continually works with staff members in creating a professional and amiable atmosphere; encourages and supports co-workers to work as a team. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in workload. Assists with health care and/or behavioral needs and documents appropriately. Completes assigned work in a timely manner and strives to make good use of time. Gives feedback to Program Administrator and/or shift lead regarding any issues affecting home operations and resident care; including immediate notification of any changes in care needs. Seeks help and/or guidance from co-workers and/or shift lead as appropriate. Responds to emergencies appropriately as directed by all health/behavior plans, regulations, and/or policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED Successful completion of all trainings as required by applicable regulations One year experience working in a program serving persons with developmental disabilities preferred Must complete a DOJ and FBI fingerprint and criminal clearance and be free of convictions barring employment in this position under applicable statute or regulation Must have a valid health screening with clear TB test within 1 year prior to hire or no later than 7 days after hire Must possess a current, valid driver's license in state of residence, have a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record Upon hire, must complete all trainings as required by applicable regulations, including but not limited to: DSP1, DSP2, First Aid, CPR/AED certifications #ZR
