The Therapist is responsible for diagnosing and treating children and adolescents with mental health issues using evidence-based practices. Key duties include implementing treatment plans, providing individual guidance, and maintaining high-quality clinical documentation.
A Master's degree in a social science field such as counseling, psychology, or social work is required. Preference is given to candidates with two or more years of experience in a mental health setting working with youth.

Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a 106-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Master’s degree in social science, such as counseling, psychology, or social work required. Two or more years’ experience in a mental health setting working with children and/or adolescents is preferred. Needs basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, residential treatment, clinical science/pathology and psychiatric disorders. Must know how to gather and analyze data. Must be articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians both verbally and in writing Must be able to acquire clear understanding of treatment priorities and ability to make sound decisions balancing resident and family needs with available resources. Must have basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Physical requirements: The physical requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit, and lie on the floor for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Must be able to climb, run and walk for long periods of time as well. Must be able to lift 50lbs of weight. Must be able to read, write clearly, talk and listen. Able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain patients/residents when necessary.
