The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining specimens and performing venipunctures for routine and specialized testing. They must maintain specimen integrity and communicate patient healthcare needs to providers.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience, though a phlebotomy training program may substitute for experience. A vocational diploma and ASCP certification are preferred.
The Phlebotomist obtains specimens and performs venipunctures for specialized and routine testing; maintains specimen integrity and quality control; and communicates patient and family health care needs to the appropriate health care provider.
