The Maternal Child Tech serves as a surgical scrub technician for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries while maintaining the cleanliness and stocking of the area. They provide direct patient care, including lifts and transfers, under the supervision of nursing staff.
Candidates must be a Certified Scrub Tech, a certified Kansas Nurse Aide, or have one year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Tech. Current BLS certification is required, and a CST certification is preferred.
I. JOB SUMMARY The Maternal Child Tech functions as a member of the patient care team, under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), and under the direction of the director and CNS. Main role in the function of scrub tech for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries, and is responsible for the cleanliness and stocking of this area. The Maternal Child Tech demonstrates behavior that promotes positive customer relations with patients, physicians and coworkers. II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES a. Provides technical skill in the role of a surgical scrub during operative procedures and vaginal deliveries. b. Demonstrates expertise with instrumentation, setting up the case, and physician preference. c. Communicates with the RN during the performance of a cesarean section to ensure proper counts, requests for specific supplies and patient safety. d. Provides direct care in accordance with treatment plans, as directed by the LPN, RN, charge nurse, nursing director or CNS. e. Observes and reports questionable patient conditions to the RN on duty and documents within the scope of licensure. f. Coordinate with the charge nurse other specific shift tasks and duties related to workflow. g. Performs and assists with patient lifts, transfers, positioning and ambulation. h. Assists with patient meals and bathing, as directed. i. Cleaning, ordering, and stocking needs of the department. j. Assist with the completion of tasks during the shift, i.e. birth certificates, charges, ordering, etc. as needed k. Accompanies patients to various treatment locations throughout the facility. l. Completes required documentation accurately and in a timely fashion. m. Completes patient charges and assures accuracy and follow up according to procedure. n. Excellent customer service skills. o. Performs other duties as needed or assigned. p. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position III.
