The Histotechnologist prepares human tissue sections for microscopic examination through embedding, sectioning, and staining. They are also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, performing quality controls, and assisting pathologists with gross examinations.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent and HTL certification from the ASCP (or eligibility within 6 months). Candidates must have completed an accredited histology program or possess at least one year of experience as a Histology Technician Trainee.
This position works under the direct supervision of the histology section head assisting with coordinating the completion of the daily workload in histology. Responsibilities include CoPath data entry, routine and special testing on biological specimens, immunohistochemistry procedures, assistance to the pathologists in the gross examination room as necessary, preparation of biologic specimens for send out to consultation laboratories, and equipment maintenance, as well as any duties deemed necessary by the histology section head.
