The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing MRI examinations and ensuring effective communication with patients and healthcare team members. They also participate in safety training and maintain compliance with MRI safety regulations.
Candidates should have at least one year of MRI scanning experience or experience in scanning cross-sectional anatomy. A high school diploma and relevant certifications, including BLS and ARRT or ARMRIT, are required.
Work Shift Day/Evening Scheduled Weekly Hours 0 Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by participating in technical duties directly involved with the MRI including developing, initiating, and monitoring procedures for the effective utilization of this unit.
Job Duties/Essential Functions Job Duties Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome Demonstrates working knowledge of RIS, PACS, and other computer software programs as assigned Demonstrates proper technique with magnetic resonance imaging equipment and scanning protocols when doing examinations for patients of all ages Participates in department/hospital meetings, activities per department guidelines Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards Participates in the training of Radiology Students ensuring completion of competency checks Review patients orders and request with radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained Contributes to the efficient operation of the department ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care Responsible for taking MRI call Maintains up to date safety and compliance knowledge specific to MRI Understands and complies with all MRI safety regulations Will rotate to off-site locations Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel. Ability to deal efficiently and courteously with all hospital personnel. Competent with Magnetic Resonance Imaging, department information system and PACS. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Professional Experience 1 year MRI scanning experience preferred or 1 year experience in scanning cross sectional anatomy preferred. Education High School graduate or equivalent Licensure, Certification, Registration Advanced certification from an accredited certifying body such as the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certificate required. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
