The RN is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages, from infancy to geriatric, in the emergency department. This includes assessing patient status, planning and implementing nursing actions, and evaluating outcomes for medical or post-surgical problems.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing school with a valid Indiana RN license and PALS/ACLS certification. Experience or a completed course in critical care or emergency room nursing is required.
Harrison County Hospital is seeking an Emergency Room RN, Full-time Nights to provide safe, responsive nursing care for patients from infancy through geriatrics presenting with medical or post-surgical needs. This onsite, full-time night role (6pm–6am) includes one on-call shift per week and supports quality outcomes through consistent use of the nursing process and adherence to standards of practice, the nurse’s code of ethics, and the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
Core expectations include thorough assessment, development and execution of individualized care plans, ongoing evaluation of patient response, and clear, timely documentation. The RN will also perform venipuncture and complete accurate cardiac rhythm monitoring.

Your night begins with a focused handoff and quick prioritization of room status and patient needs. Through the shift, you coordinate closely with providers and ancillary teams, document clearly, and keep patients and families informed with calm, professional communication. You’ll balance periods of steady monitoring with sudden surges in volume, staying organized while maintaining attention to detail. As the night winds down, you complete final reassessments, ensure orders and documentation are up to date, and prepare a thorough report to support a smooth transition to the day team.
