Perform specimen accessioning, preparation, and phlebotomy duties while ensuring proper documentation and timely distribution of samples. Coordinate with physicians and nursing staff to clarify orders and maintain laboratory protocols.
A high school diploma or GED is required, with a preference for three years of clinical laboratory experience. Candidates should possess knowledge of laboratory tests and the ability to operate clinical equipment.
The OHH Laboratory Assistant I is under general supervision of the Team Leader or Medical Technologist performs specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, clerical registration and phlebotomy duties associated with the laboratory. Interacts with patients, physicians, nurses and laboratory staff including Department Managers, Team Leaders and Administration. Observe specimens to determine appropriateness of volume, condition, proper collection and documentation for requested procedures with no more than one failure per month Within one hour, verify and clarify with physician and/or nursing staff, conflicting or unclear orders Properly prepare specimens for testing according to written protocol Distribute specimens to appropriate areas for testing in a timely manner after processing so that results are not delayed Document all paperwork with information outlind in the laboratory protocol Scan orders into the EMR as needed
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
