- Surgery Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Full-time + benefits We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our general surgery team at the Specialty Clinic.
- This role is ideal for nurses who are passionate about patient-centered care and interested in developing their skills in surgical specialty care.
- Both experienced surgical nurses and those looking to expand their clinical knowledge are encouraged to apply.
- In this role, you will assess patient needs, coordinate surgical care, and support patients and families throughout the pre-operative and post-operative process.
- You will work closely with surgeons and the clinical team to ensure safe, timely, and effective patient care.

Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Triage
- Assess incoming patient calls to determine urgency of symptoms or concerns.
- Provide telephone triage for post-operative issues such as pain, wound concerns, or possible complications.
- Direct patients to appropriate care, including clinic follow-up, urgent evaluation, or emergency services when needed. Care Coordination
- Coordinate care for patients before and after surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with surgeons, providers, and clinical staff to ensure timely care.
- Assist with scheduling procedures, diagnostic tests, and referrals. Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and caregivers on surgical procedures, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative recovery.
- Provide guidance on wound care, medications, activity restrictions, and warning signs of complications. Documentation & Follow-Up
- Document patient interactions, assessments, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Monitor recovery and coordinate follow-up appointments to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate patient updates and concerns with the surgical team.
Qualifications
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa Experience: All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in surgery or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing #UPC123
