Provide supportive counseling and guidance to individuals navigating recovery and the Emergency Custody Order process. Monitor progress, facilitate outreach, and connect clients with essential community resources.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of personal recovery from a mental health disorder. Must obtain a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification within one year of hire.
Peer Support Specialists aid individuals in achieving positive coping mechanisms for the stressors and barriers encountered during their path to wellness and recovery, to include but not limited to areas of emotional, financial, social, spiritual, occupational, physical, intellectual, and environmental wellbeing. Peer Support Specialists will assist individuals by providing supportive counseling, helping them articulate their support needs and developing strategies for recovery, helping them monitor their progress, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the specialist's own recovery experience and training. Additionally assisting with education and connecting with resources. Peer Support Specialists are encouraged to share their own lived experience in a manner that promotes hope and teaches individuals about paths to recovery and overcoming barriers.
Minimum Requirements High School graduate or GED required. Minimum one (1) year recovery time, having experienced a mental health disorder or mental illness with good self-knowledge to manage the disorder. Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (required but can be obtained upon hire and must be obtain within one year of employment) Preferred Requirements
Experience facilitating recovery support groups and/or WRAP groups for an individual with mental illness. Some college Certified WRAP Facilitator
Provide supportive atmosphere for individuals receiving services Provides supportive level counseling throughout the Emergency Custody Order (ECO) process and refers problems to appropriate staff members as required Records individual served progress and communicates with treatment team regarding progress and concerns Provides follow up outreach to individuals served in the form of face to face and/or phone contact
