Conduct innovative scientific investigations into the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and the role of the gut microbiome. Establish research objectives, analyze results, publish findings, and supervise laboratory staff and postdoctoral fellows.
Requires a Ph.D., M.D., D.O., or D.V.M. in a related field with a strong background in immunology, cell biology, or toxicology.
Conducts innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB. Committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques and procedures while using judgment when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Research Scientists conduct innovative scientific investigations by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB. The Research Scientist will establish research objectives and methodology, design procedure, conduct research projects, analyze and interpret results, will publish and present research as author and co-author as well as lead or train Classified Research staff and Post Doctoral Fellows. In addition, supervises work of lab staff, oversees execution of assigned tasks. Research projects focus on understanding the mechanisms of pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, especially role of gut microbiome. Selected candidate is required to have strong background in immunology, cell biology or toxicology. Research experiences/skills in PCR, siRNA, ncRNA, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometric analysis, and working experience with animal handling (mice) are required. The successful candidate would be expected to perform experiments independently, organize data, draft manuscript, and present research findings in meetings and/or conferences.
Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and no experience required.
Selected candidate is required to have strong background in immunology, cell biology or toxicology. SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
