The APP provides comprehensive direct patient care, including diagnosing illnesses and prescribing treatments for neurology and stroke patients. Additionally, they manage indirect care responsibilities such as staff education, clinical research, and program development.
Candidates must have a Master's of Science in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant programs and a valid national certification. A minimum of 3 years of experience in ER or Critical Care is recommended, along with BLS certification.
Overview The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive direct patient care and scholarly practice including obtaining comprehensive patient histories, performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients, and providing health maintenance and promotion interventions such as patient and family education and counseling. Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
Education required: Completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Master's of Science program from an accredited college or university License, certification and/or registration: Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA. Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners. Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board. BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period. ACLS preferred.
