Provides specialized care to patients in the Endoscopy Center, including room preparation and equipment management. Responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, and decontamination of medical instruments and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative experience.
Requires a high school diploma and at least one year of related work experience in GI endoscopy. Must maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support certification and possess strong communication skills.
Provides individualized and specialized care to patients in the Endoscopy Center in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Demonstrates initiative, insight and judgment in the decision-making process.
CLINICAL FUNCTIONS (If only working in specific unit area ✓ N/A to other unit areas)
Room Preparation: 1 Prepares room and equipment based on patient needs
2 Implements housecleaning tasks necessary for sanitation
3 Acquires supplies and equipment needed for procedure
4 Test equipment function and reports any malfunction
5 After the procedure, cleans room and restocks supplies as appropriate for the next procedure or end of the day
Processing of Instruments and Equipment
1 Demonstrates ability to clean and organize equipment
2 Demonstrates ability to package supplies for sterilization
3 Demonstrates correct use of washing and sterilizing equipment
4 Selects proper mode of sterilization for instruments and equipment
5 Demonstrates knowledge of chemical sterilization/disinfection
6 Chooses appropriate items for disinfection
7 Chooses appropriate agent(s) for disinfection
8 Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique
9 Handles tissue specimens correctly and accurately
10 Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of scope functions and equipment utilized during procedure

Work involves prolonged periods of standing, sitting, lifting, bending, reaching and the ability to push or pull items weighing SO pounds or less.
The Center is open Monday through Friday and provides preoperative beds, procedure rooms, and post procedure beds. In the working environment of the Center, there may be potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood and body fluids, and hazardous materials.
