Surgery Assistant

• Job Summary: The Surgery Assistant transports patients to operating rooms, assists surgeons and circulating nurses with patient positioning.
• This role performs environmental tasks including cleaning the operating rooms and equipment; and ensures supplies are stocked.
• Minimum Education: None.
• High School diploma, or GED, preferred.
• Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information.

• Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs independent procedural tasks such as transporting patients while ensuring patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning and prep in a manner that demonstrates knowledge and ensures patient safety, skin integrity and sterile technique.
• Assists the surgical team utilizing knowledge of sterile technique to hold retractors and cameras as directed by the surgeon.
• Performs environmental activities to maintain a clean and orderly surgical suite.
• Identifies correct patient to verify specific information utilizing strong interpersonal skills and abilities.
• Ensures supplies are stocked and sterile.
• Assists with maintaining a sterile environment.
• Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
• Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers.
• Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction.
• Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
