Conduct recruiting and interviews for the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance program focusing on specific populations. Assist with the setup of testing events and provide referrals to health services.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and 2 years of paid experience in public health, social services, or community engagement. CTR certification is preferred, and candidates must be willing to be trained in HIV counseling and testing.
The National HIV Behavioral Surveillance is a CDC program that collects data on HIV prevention and treatment. The program rotates focus populations every annual research cycle, the cycles consist of MSM (men who have sex with men), PWID (people who inject drugs), and HET (High-risk heterosexuals). A cycle consists of two phases, formative (January-May) and data collection (June-December). 2025 was focused on HET, and 2026 is focused on MSM. For the MSM cycle, NHBS focuses on events at venues frequented by MSM in New Orleans and the surrounding area, outside of traditional work/clinic hours. Prevention Coordinators will assist with setting up for these events, recruiting and interviewing participants, and referring participants to services when applicable. After receiving training, staff will also assist with HIV testing. This is a fulltime position with 40 hours a week expected. Work hours change weekly based on research implementation needs. Most work hours during data collection will be in the afternoon and at night. The position is funded by a CDC grant and the term of employment is subject to the continuation and renewal of this grant. Key

Other (licensure, certifications) CTR certification preferred. If the employee is not trained in HIV counselling, testing, and referral, they must be willing to learn this skill and earn certification when it is arranged by their manager. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Extended periods of sitting and standing required. Travel required.
