Provide direct and indirect care for patients with general medical, cardiac, and pulmonary illnesses. Responsibilities include assessing patients, administering medications, and assisting physicians with medical procedures.
Requires a nursing degree and a current Tennessee nursing license. Candidates must obtain BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications within the specified timeframes.
A registered professional nurse employed in the Medicine/Surgery Unit of Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients experiencing general medical, cardiac and/or pulmonary illness.
Required: Graduate from accredited School of Nursing. Annual Erlanger Health System EOL courses.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

The Registered Nurse employed on the Medicine/Surgery Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and indirect care of patients experiencing general medical, cardiac and/or pulmonary illness including congestive heart failure, Sepsis, and cardiac rhythm disturbances. The RN must be able to assess and monitor patients, as well as administer medications and assist with procedures under the direction of EHS physicians/Advance Practice Providers. He/she must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The RN must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. The RN must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.
