Supports endoscopic procedures by preparing procedure rooms and assisting physicians and nurses with patient care and specimen collection. Responsible for the high-level disinfection and reprocessing of endoscopes and accessories to ensure safety and quality standards.
Requires a high school diploma and CPR certification, with 1-2 years of clinical experience. Preferred candidates have 3-5 years of GI lab experience and SGNA certification.
The GI Lab Technician supports basic endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy and EGD, using video endoscopes and specialized equipment. This role assists physicians and registered nurses in patient care, specimen collection, room preparation, and endoscope reprocessing to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients undergoing gastrointestinal procedures. What You Will Do Prepare and Maintain Procedure Rooms Set up and break down procedure rooms and equipment before and after each case Clean and disinfect work surfaces in accordance with infection prevention standards Consistently utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Assist During Endoscopic Procedures Support physicians and registered nurses during endoscopic procedures using Endo therapy techniques Assist with specimen collection and handling Transport patients to and from procedure, pre-op, and post-op areas Assist with patient positioning, turning, and safety throughout procedures Support application of monitoring equipment, oxygen delivery, and suctioning under RN supervision Follow all PPE and safety protocols Support Pre- and Post-Procedure Care Assist with preparation and cleaning of procedure carts Escort discharged patients via wheelchair Support collection of vital signs and urine specimens under supervision Endoscope Reprocessing Perform pre-cleaning, manual cleaning, and high-level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories Ensure compliance with regulatory and infection control standards Stocking and General Support (5%) Deliver laboratory specimens to the lab Stock supplies, linens, and equipment in work areas Maintain organization of procedural areas Perform errands such as transporting equipment across departments Quality, Safety & Service Excellence Adhere to patient safety standards and reduce risk of harm Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and service excellence through clear communication and collaboration Patient Care Excellence Provide compassionate, individualized care across diverse patient populations Demonstrate competency in caring for patients across all age groups (infancy through geriatrics) Recognize and respond to patient needs, including those with special requirements What You Will Need Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred: Additional training through work experience or education Experience Required: 1–2 years of related healthcare or clinical experience Preferred: 3–5 years of experience in a clinical or GI lab setting Certifications Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification Preferred: Gastroenterology Technical Specialist (SGNA) Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes Ability to work independently on routine tasks with guidance for complex assignments Effective communication and teamwork skills Knowledge of infection control, patient safety, and clinical protocols Physical ability to assist with patient transport, positioning, and equipment handling Compensation:
$18.16 - $28.14 per hour Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
