Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - Ambulatory Care Center OR - Rotating

• The Surgical Technologist II (operating room scrub technician) sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used.
• This position passes instruments to surgeons during surgery.
• This position also performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases.
• The Surgical Technologist II serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists and takes call for routine and high acuity cases after orientation period.
• This role also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.
• Essential Job Statements Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST) certification.
• Certification or Registration Requirement for Continued Employment: Registration by the Virginia State Board of Medicine, Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification Current CST; TS-C or CORST required Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of 6 months experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub tech position.
• Experience PREFERRED: 2 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program Education/training PREFERRED: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program Independent action(s) required: Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing direct patient care, emotional support and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures.
• Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from the standard and identification of educational resources to meet developmental needs.
• Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
• Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Surgical Technologists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with employee’s specific Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
• Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interests of the work unit.
• Takes independent call for routine or high acuity cases after the orientation period.
• Age Specific groups served: As appropriate based on transitional duty assignment.
• Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs.
