The Occupational Therapist evaluates patient function and develops goal-specific treatment regimes in coordination with physicians. They are responsible for implementing interventions, educating patients and caregivers, and supervising therapy assistants and aides.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and possess OTR, NBCOT, and BLS certifications. The role requires the ability to perform medium physical demands and maintain professional communication standards.
This position delegates responsibility to the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Aides. Activities of this position are patient focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures.
(20%)*Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal/informal testing measures to determine the skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular status, developmental, social, and cognitive functions. (20%)*Develops a goal specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carryout the treatment plan as prescribed. (20%)*Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician. Updates plan of care as needed to reflect changes in patient status. Cosigns verbal orders received by occupational therapist assistant as necessary. (20%)*Devises a schedule of treatment, which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with patient/family/caregiver and coordinated with clinical support staff. (20%)*Educates patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions. Provides supervision for Occupational Therapist Assistants, Therapy Aides Completes daily documentation necessary for billing procedures per affiliate policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to therapist’s patient care area. Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education program using relevant and effective teaching methods. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize quality of patient care including coordination with interdisciplinary team members. Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other health care providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement. Assists with program development. Participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate. Promotes occupational therapy within MyMichigan Health and service area, participating in and providing community education. Function as case manager for assigned cases. Demonstrates commitment to MyMichigan Health and specific affiliate mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork.
