Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Emergency Room Technician in the Comer Emergency Room department.
Comer Children's Hospital located in Hyde Park, is a state-of-the-art 172-bed hospital dedicated to caring for infants, children, teens and young adults.
Comer Emergency Department is a 21-bed, Level 1 Pediatric Academic Trauma Center dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based care to the children of South Side of Chicago and beyond.
With 2 trauma bays, 1 special procedures room and a dedicated resuscitation bay, we are equipped to handle the most critical situations.
We are proud to be recognized as an exemplary pediatric emergency department, having received the Emergency Nurses Association’s prestigious Lantern Award for 2024-2027.
This position is a 100% onsite opportunity.
You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Emergency Room Technician assists and augments the registered nursing staff in providing high quality patient care in the Mitchell and Comer emergency rooms. The ERT must demonstrate the expertise and competency of all required skills in accordance with Illinois State law.
Essential Job Functions
Transporting patients throughout hospital as needed
Keeping supplies and linen at par levels in assigned areas.
Performing and maintaining POC testing and EKG, which includes QC and transmitting of data.
Assisting RN’s with patient care as needed and/or requested, within limits of the law and/or policy.
Sitting with medically/psychologically compromised patients.
Maintaining a clean work environment by preparing ED rooms for the next patient when necessary.
Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
C.N.A with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or
M.A. with phlebotomy certification or EKG experience, or
EMT-B or EMT-P
Must have current Basic Life Support certification through The American Heart Association
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision.
Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.
Preferred Qualifications
ED experience highly preferred.
ACLS/PALS certification.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
