The Ophthalmic Assistant supports ophthalmologists by conducting patient histories, performing diagnostic ocular tests, and preparing patients for examinations. Additionally, they handle administrative tasks such as triaging messages, managing prior authorizations, and maintaining exam room supplies.
A high school diploma is required, while certification from an accredited ophthalmic program or a medical assistant program is preferred. Candidates should ideally have at least one year of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant and knowledge of ocular pharmacology.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduate from medical assistant program preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of Ophthalmic Assistant experience preferred. Demonstrates knowledge of ocular terminology and pharmacology, including the identification and proper use of diagnostic medications. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
