The Clinical Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to oncology patients, ensuring the safety and accuracy of chemotherapy and infusion treatment plans. Responsibilities include verifying medication orders, supervising pharmacy technicians, and serving as a drug information resource for healthcare professionals.
Candidates must hold a PharmD or BS in Pharmacy and possess a current Washington state pharmacist license. A minimum of two years of pharmacy practice (or a PGY-1 residency) and at least one year of oncology experience are required.
Evaluate chemotherapy and infusion treatment plans for accuracy and appropriateness. Verify medication orders by assessing diagnosis, dosing, drug interactions, allergies, labs, toxicity, and drug-specific monitoring parameters to ensure safe medication administration. Supervise pharmacy technicians in the preparation of hazardous and non-hazardous sterile products Recommend therapy modifications to providers as clinically necessary to maximize therapeutic benefits and minimize toxicity. Participate in developing pharmacist-driven protocols (e.g. carboplatin dosing, dose rounding, etc.) Serve as a drug information resource to other healthcare professionals, including educating on new therapies. Product verification of medications dispensed through our specialty pharmacy. Assist the research department with the review, evaluation, and roll out of new investigational drug trials Analyze drug shortages and inventory needs. Develop, review, and assist with implementation of drug protocols and regimen builds. Maintain compliance with state and federal regulatory bodies as it pertains to physician-based oncology outpatient clinics. Responsible for professional development, including meeting all requirements for continuing education, keeping abreast of current professional literature, and maintaining a pharmacist licensure in good standing. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy Licensure: Current pharmacist licensure in the State of Washington or ability to obtain prior to start date Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in pharmacy practice OR completion of a PGY-1 pharmacy residency. At least one year of oncology experience.
