Newport News, Virginia Overview Float to multiple locations within the region providing support as needed.
Works under the supervision of the physician, Office Manager, RN, and LPN.
The certified medical assistant performs a wide range of clinical duties including assisting the physician in providing quality care in a medical office setting.
The certified medical assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge required to provide age appropriate care for the patients served in the practice, and skills to interpret assessment in relation to principles of growth and development over the life span.
In addition, the certified medical assistant must be knowledgeable of health insurance guidelines for preauthorization's and referral processes, and be attentive to scheduling testing and specialist visits within network guidelines.
What you will do Maintains excellent clinical competency to include the initial patient work up (including manual vitals), chaperoning patients, assisting providers with procedures, and preparing patient rooms are clean and compliant for next visit.
Assures that clinical equipment is maintained and clinical supplies are ordered and stocked as necessary.
Manages in basket messages in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Documents in EMR accurately and appropriately.
Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history in electronic medical record; reconciling medications; reviewing systems; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
Capable of taking accurate vital signs; i.e. temperature, blood pressure, respirations, pulse, weight and height.
Promotes the daily workflow to include collecting patient information/assessment data.
Reports assessment findings to provider.
Acts as a liaison between physician and patient, providing patient access to care, including for appointments, referrals and essential information.
Demonstrates excellent customer service to include providing timely patient response and follow up.
Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules.
Supports productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources to meet patient demand.
Maximize physician visits so that productivity targets are met.
Provides patient education per protocol and provider instruction to include Electronic Health Record and exit interview communication tools.
Demonstrates and maintains a professional relationship with medical staff.
Builds trusting collaborative relationships through timely follow up regarding requests and concerns.
Collaborates with physicians and physician office staff to provide for the specialized needs of the patients.
Exhibits knowledge of lab procedures to include compliant use of Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) and phlebotomy skills (If applicable).
Sends specimens to correct lab.
Accurately performs lab linkage, obtains pre authorizations, scheduling tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
Assists with health screenings by performing phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing and vital signs.
Follows insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations.
Maintains a working knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding and seeks assistance as needed.
