As a bedside caregiver, the Patient Care Technician provides a phenomenal patient experience by anticipating needs such as providing drinks, assisting with meals, encouraging walking, and assisting with hygiene. They also provide clinical assistance to the RN by obtaining vital signs and ensuring patient safety through measures like gait belts and alarms.
Candidates must possess current Basic Life Support certification (AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program) and knowledge appropriate to the age of patients served. Required abilities include proficiency in interpersonal communication, maintaining concentration under stress, exercising judgment, setting priorities, and performing physically demanding tasks.
