Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to premature and critically ill newborns in a Level II/III/IV NICU. Perform advanced neonatal procedures and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manage patient care and support families.
Requires a Master's or Doctorate in Nursing (for NNPs) or a Master's from an accredited PA program with a Neonatal Fellowship. Must possess current licensure in Tennessee and national certification (NNP or NCCPA) with at least two years of nursing clinical experience.
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider, either a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or a Physician Assistant who has completed a Neonatal Fellowship, to join our NICU team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing exceptional, family-centered care to premature and critically ill newborns. This position includes rotating shift coverage with flexibility to support work–life balance and team needs. The provider will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based care to neonates in a Level II/III/IV NICU setting and perform advanced neonatal procedures such as intubation, line placement, and resuscitation when within scope of practice and training. Responsibilities include participating in high‑risk deliveries, providing stabilization and resuscitation, performing thorough assessments, and managing ongoing patient care. The provider will collaborate closely with neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other team members. Additional duties include communicating effectively with families, completing accurate documentation, supporting educational initiatives, and contributing to quality improvement efforts. Rotating shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility based on patient and team needs.
Required: Candidates for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner pathway must hold a Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing, possess current RN and APRN licensure, and have national NNP certification. Candidates for the Physician Assistant pathway must hold a Master’s degree from an accredited PA program, have active PA licensure and NCCPA certification, and must have completed a Neonatal Fellowship.
Experience: Required: Minimum of two (2) years Nursing clinical experience
Preferred: Clinical experience in the NICU
Erlanger Health System is home to the region’s only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, providing the highest level of care available for premature and medically fragile newborns. The Level IV NICU serves as a regional referral center, delivering comprehensive treatment for complex neonatal conditions, access to pediatric subspecialists, advanced surgical capabilities, and the highest level of respiratory and critical care support. In addition to the Level IV NICU, Erlanger operates additional neonatal care units that support moderate- and late-preterm infants, offering a full continuum of care from delivery through discharge. Our neonatal services are designed to provide seamless transitions between levels of care, supporting both high‑acuity and step‑down needs. The NICU team is composed of neonatologists, neonatal APPs, specialized nursing staff, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and other pediatric professionals dedicated to family‑centered care.
