The Senior Speech-Language Pathologist provides Speech-Language Pathology services, including screening, evaluation, and treatment of speech, voice, cognition, language, and swallow disorders, while collaborating with the healthcare team for optimum patient rehabilitation. This role also involves demonstrating advanced competency in swallow studies, fulfilling charge duties, serving as a resource for complex cases, and potentially supervising or mentoring other clinicians.
Candidates must have a Master's degree from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program and a minimum of three years of full-time clinical experience, with specific inpatient experience required in an acute hospital setting. Essential requirements include a current California Speech-Language Pathology license, Certificate of Clinical Competence, current BLS, and a valid California driver's license.
Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to promote optimum patient rehabilitation. Provides Speech- Language Pathology services as defined by the California Speech-Language Pathology Practice Act, applying the principles, methods, and procedures for the screening, evaluation, and treatment of disorders of speech, voice, cognition, language, and swallow. Additionally, the Senior Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide Speech Language Pathology services within an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices, and ethical standards. This individual will demonstrate accountability for, and contribution to, the Department’s daily operations, including fulfilling charge duties as requested. The Senior SLP serves as a resource for other clinicians or healthcare providers, as needed, for more difficult or complex cases requiring advanced clinical skills. These include, but are not limited to, the demonstration of advanced competency in the performance and interpretation of videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), also known as modified barium swallow studies (MBSS). Inpatient SLP providers must also demonstrate competency in Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES), as determined by formal sign-off by a qualified individual who can attest to the provider’s competency. The Senior SLP may supervise and/or mentor other SLPs as requested. Exhibit fiscal responsibility through accurate time-keeping of assigned work shifts (which includes compliance with management-designated start/end times). Participate in program development and quality improvement activities as requested by management Adhere to the Department’s established productivity standards. Position is enterprise-wide, employees will be required to float between campuses. Qualifications Completion of Accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program; Masters degree required Minimum of three (3) years’ full-time clinical experience (For Inpatient SLPs, experience must be in acute hospital setting); if working in NICU, at least one year experience in NICU care For Outpatient SLPs: Demonstrated proficiency in video swallow studies (VFSS/MBSS) within 6 months of hire For Inpatient SLPs: Demonstrated proficiency in both VFSS/MBSS and FEES by within 6 months of hire License/Certification/Registration Requirements Current valid California Speech-Language Pathology license Certificate of Clinical Competence as required by the State of California Current BLS (Basic Lifesaving Certification - American Heart Association) for Healthcare Provider Valid California drivers license and proof of automobile insurance CCS-Paneled or in process if working in NICU/OP Pediatrics Ages of Patients Served This position can serve the following age groups: neonate/child (0-3), child (4-12), adolescent (13-17), adult (18-64), and older adult (65+)
