The Peer Specialist is responsible for assisting and empowering peer consumers by developing strength-based recovery and relapse prevention plans with measurable goals and objectives. This role involves carrying out independent living plans, cultivating consumer independence, and empowering participation in community self-help groups.
Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and participation in recovery support services, along with a strong desire to work and help others. Experience demonstrating organization and planning abilities is also necessary, though a Certified Peer Specialist certification is preferred.
