The Medication Assistant is primarily responsible for administering medications to residents accurately, safely, and on time, following established policies and procedures. This role also involves monitoring residents for adverse reactions and documenting all medication administration in the electronic health record.
A current Medication Aide Certification is mandatory for the state of practice. Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, particularly in assisted living or long-term care, is preferred but not required.
Description The Medication Assistant is responsible for the administration of medications to residents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. The Medication Assistant will ensure that all medications are dispensed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. The Medication Assistant will work under the supervision of a licensed nurse and will communicate with residents, family members, and healthcare professionals as needed.
Administer medications to residents as prescribed by the healthcare provider. Ensure that all medications are dispensed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. Monitor residents for adverse reactions or side effects of medication and report to the licensed nurse as needed. Document medication administration and resident response in the electronic health record (EHR). Order and receive medications as directed by the licensed nurse. Assist with medication inventory management and reordering. Communicate with residents, family members, and healthcare professionals regarding medication administration and changes in medication regimens. Provide general support to the nursing staff as needed.
