The Forensic Certified Peer Recovery Specialist will actively use personal recovery experiences to mentor, teach, and support incarcerated individuals in developing skills and resources for recovery, both during incarceration and upon community reentry. Responsibilities include assisting clients in identifying treatment plan goals, assessing needs and strengths, facilitating peer-oriented skill development groups, and connecting consumers with necessary community resources.
Candidates must possess a PCB Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) certification, demonstrating at least two years of personal recovery from substance abuse, or dual diagnosis recovery. A valid PA Driver’s License is required, along with the ability to work 40 hours per week within specified agency operating hours.

As a Forensic Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, you will be an active member of the integrated care team. You will use your own unique experiences to mentor, teach, and support incarcerated individuals with building skills and resources to facilitate individual recovery, while at Berks County Jail System and as they are transitioning back into the community.
To qualify for the position, you will need… A PCB Certified Recovery Specialist CRS: Self-identified current or past consumer of substance abuse treatment services with at least two (2) years recovery. If you have a dual substance use disorder, you will need to be at least 2 years in recovery. A valid PA Driver’s License and the ability to drive, travel, and provide community-oriented service. Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation, which are 8am-8pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4pm Friday with Saturday hours, when applicable. Preferred candidates will … Have a PCB Certified Peer Specialist certification. If CPS: To attest mental health diagnosis and stage of recovery. Be Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred. Have knowledge of drug and alcohol support programs including 12 step programs, drug and alcohol disorders and treatment, principles used towards achieving recovery, and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). Have knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches preferred. Physical Requirements: SEEING: Must be able to see well enough to read reports and use computer. COMMUNICATING: Must be able to communicate well enough to clients, vendors, and coworkers. MOBILITY: Must have mobility to move about the jail, agency, and community. LIFTING/PULLING/PUSHING: Must be able to lift up to 5 pounds. OTHER: Must be able to write, type and use technology.
