The technician performs venipunctures, capillary punctures, collects throat swabs, and instructs patients on proper urine specimen collection under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Duties also include accessing computers for test ordering, printing labels, assisting with clerical tasks, and ensuring the collection area is adequately stocked.
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and Phlebotomy Certification is preferred. Candidates must possess verbal ability for clear communication, numerical ability for calculations, and sufficient form perception and visual acuity for lab tests.
Education: Prefer high school diploma or equivalent. (i.e. GED) License/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification preferred. Additional skills/abilities: Verbal ability to communicate with patients and other clientele instructions and other information. Numerical ability to calculate by formula. Form perception, visual acuity in the color spectrum to perform specific lab tests.
