Mammography Technologists operate mammography units to produce diagnostic breast images, requiring precise patient positioning, equipment operation, and image quality review under physician direction. Responsibilities also include ensuring patient safety through radiation protection, educating patients, and managing image archiving and paperwork via CAD and PACS systems.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Radiologic Technology school, hold current R.T.(R) (ARRT) registration with Mammography Certification R.T.(R) (M) (ARRT), and possess current state licensure (RL) and BLS certification. A minimum of 40 hours of specific mammography training is required, with one year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist being preferred.
