The Licensed Practical Nurse performs various basic nursing procedures under the direction of a registered nurse, which may include wound care, medication administration, and monitoring patient responses. This role also involves participating in the development and evaluation of the patient's plan of care while ensuring patient comfort and safety in the home environment.
Candidates must possess current licensure with the Michigan State Board of Nursing and have two years of current nursing experience. A valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance, and current CPR certification are also mandatory requirements for this position.
Performs nursing procedures/treatments in the home within scope of practice. Works under the direction of the registered professional nurse. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 1. Performs a variety of basic nursing procedures under the direction of a registered nurse which may include, but are not limited to, wound care, wound irrigations, medication administration, catheterization, range of motion exercises and glucose monitoring. 2. If the LPN is appropriately qualified, prepares and administers oral, rectal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal and topical medications to patients per policy and procedure. Observes patient response to medication, records unexpected reactions and reports them to the registered nurse. 3. Identifies common patient problems, symptoms and reactions through monitoring 4. Participates in the development, review and evaluation of the plan of care appropriate to the age of the patient in conjunction with the registered nurse. 5. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and expresses interest in the patient progress. 6. Provides for the physical and emotional comfort of the patient as well as a safe home environment.
