Job summary
Participates as a member of the OR healthcare team in planning, preparing, and producing a safe and effective OR experience for patients undergoing surgery. Provides guidance and supervision to surgical technicians and input in the development and implementation of goals and objectives to support the nursing process, standards development process, and the performance improvement process. Maintains clinical competency in professional nursing practice.
Schedule
Part-Time, 30 hours a week, three 10s with late stay rotation.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Assists in the development and implementation of the patient care delivery system.
Monitors patient’s physiological status during the operative procedure.
Ensures appropriate patient preparation for operative procedure.
Coordinates with OR technicians and surgeons in the delivery of surgical care.
Demonstrates knowledge of operating room procedure and maintenance of sterile environment.
Fosters a customer-focused environment for patients, visitors and members of the health care team.
Assumes role of patient advocate to address the patient’s biophysical, psychosocial and cultural needs as evidenced by observation and through feedback of others.

Assesses and addresses nutritional needs of the patient post-operatively

Documents clearly and thoroughly in the medical record and assists in the maintenance of patient medical records
Administers medications in accordance with Center standards and federal and state regulations for medication administration
Assists in equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting
Assists in responding to any patient or plant emergencies in accordance with approved procedures
Assists with the orientation of new personnel as assigned.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient, Center, and physician information; respects the patient’s privacy.
Level II:
Functions in the role of float or covers charge role as needed to assist in managing the patient and staff schedule, working in collaboration with other charge and management team in decision making process and maintaining efficiency within the ASC day-to-day operations.
Assists in training newly hired staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications
Possess a current PA RN license in good standing or have the ability to obtain PA licensure upon hire.
Current BLS certification required.
Previous experience in surgical, critical care or same day surgery preferred:
ACLS and PALS certifications or the ability to obtain within one year of employment required.
Ability to use a computer proficiently and/or learn new software programs (more specifically EMR systems).
Clinical knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to adhere to the process and structure standards of the OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center.
