The Medical Social Worker identifies socioeconomic and emotional factors that may impede a patient's effective medical treatment or recovery rate. This role requires demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and addressing the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
Required qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Social Work, a current state license to practice, CPR certification, and a valid driver's license. Candidates must also possess working knowledge of human behavior/development, social work process theories, and proficiency with electronic documentation.
The Medical Social Worker is responsible for identifying socioeconomic and emotional factors that exist which are, or can be, an impediment to the effective treatment of the patient’s medical condition or rate of recovery. This individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
