The Milieu Therapist II facilitates therapeutic and psychoeducational groups while managing the clinical environment to ensure patient safety. They collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide direct patient care and mentor Milieu Therapist I staff.
A Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field is required, along with one year of experience in a mental health setting. Candidates must possess specific clearances (Act 31, 33, 34, 73) and be physically capable of providing direct care to unpredictable patients.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities.Maintain on-going communication with appropriate staff concerning milieu activities for groups and individuals.Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.Key driver in one of the unit?s core initiatives Actively participates on a hospital council or committee and communicates updates in department meetings. Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups effectively.Encourage or assist patients to perform activities of daily living.Accompany patients to out-of-building activities and appointments.Document in the Medical Record according to established policies.Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.Demonstrate effective milieu management skills, which promote positive patient experiences.Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.Provide clinical interventions assessed by client needs. Coordinate patient groups and activitiesProvides mentoring and training, and serves as a preceptor of the Milieu Therapist I.Participates in program development. Maintain competency requirements.Attend a minimum of 2 unit based or Institute wide in-services yearly.Learn and utilize up-to-date technology and practices in delivery of patient care. Completes 1:1 meetings with assigned patients to assess how they are currently doing. Complete observations of patients as ordered, following all guidelines.
