The Child Life Specialist conducts psychosocial and development-based assessments, providing appropriate experiences to promote effective coping and continued growth for children and families in a healthcare setting. This role involves collaborating with medical staff, providing emotional and bereavement support, supervising care delivery, and educating staff on the unique needs of children and families.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field and complete a 480-hour child life internship, along with 1-2 years of on-the-job experience in an acute care child life program. Certification as a Child Life Specialist is required within one year of hire, and AHA BLS-HCP certification is required within six months.
Must be able to assess patient/family psychosocial and developmental level and strengths and risks; plan goals, implement interventions and evaluate effectiveness. Must also have excellent communication skills, service excellence commitment and organizational skills.
