This role involves providing support and resources to youth with serious emotional disturbances within the behavioral health system, working with them individually and in groups. The peer support specialist will assist youth in self-advocacy, problem-solving, and promoting resiliency while collaborating with the treatment team and family.
Candidates must be young adults aged 18 through 28 with lived experience receiving behavioral health services, and they must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License, reliable transportation, and insurance. Prior experience navigating complex child systems like behavioral health or child welfare is preferred, along with strong communication and organizational skills.

· Provides support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances who are receiving services in the behavioral health system. · They will work with individuals one on one and in a group setting. · Assist youth to self-advocate, problem solve, and promote resiliency while working collaboratively with others involved service delivery. · Build and foster relationships with the youth, family & others working with the youth · Act as a key member of the treatment team.
· Young adult between the ages of 18 through 28, that has lived experience as a person who is or has received behavioral health serviced. · Experience receiving services as a youth in complex, child systems (behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice, special education, foster care etc.) preferred. · Strong communication, time management, organization, and computer skills. · Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and insurance.
· Completion of MDHHS Youth Peer Support training within 6 months of hire.
